Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can I participate in this program ?

We are sorry but you have missed the deadline of Wednesday August 4, 2004, when we accepted valid applications.

Can you describe my responsibilities if I join the program ?

Once you become official NetCAT member you may be asked to focus on certain features, functional areas or platforms in which we would like to receive feedback. However, it's up to you to choose the features and areas you are interested in and you want to potentially influence. The most important and valuable will be the feedback you will provide on the Beta and RC builds through the simple bug form or alias. At the end of the program you will be asked to fill in a customer acceptance survey where you should express your point of view whether RC is ready for release.

Are there any benefits for me ?

Oh sure. Basically your voice will be treated with care. You will get a chance to influence fixing of bugs that bother you, object against waiving other annoying bugs or an access to CA phase survey. This is where you can describe your satisfaction with installation, performance or quality. Obvious installation showstoppers or clearly underperforming issues must be fixed for supported platforms. In addition, if at least 30% of participants will mention particular bug at CA Survey, such a bug must be fixed too before FCS.

Last but not least - you will receive some gift from us too ! Everybody gets a special NetBeans t-shirt and two of the most active program members will win a purchase in our NetBeans shop.

What is already covered by Sun QA ?

We perform standard testing on the latest patched versions of JDK 1.4.2 and JDK 1.5 on the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows XP, Java Desktop System, Red Hat 9, Solaris 8 and 9 (both Sparc and x86 platforms). The testing is done according to test specifications available in docs section of each module.

What does it mean RC, CA or FCS ?

Abbreviation Explanation
RC Build representing Release Candidate
CA Name for Customer Acceptance program
FCS RC build that was accepted as First Customer Ship
