Performance comments
Impressive.
I don't know if my performance problems with the EE package are reproducable for others, but for me this is nearly a showstopper
Great!!! But can always be better of course...
Performance is outstanding compared to the current release.
definite improvement in speed/load-time
the jsp editor consumes 100% of my cpu the first time I open for editing a page.
It still takes a long time to get the IDE main window, also the pause in the steps does not help perception.
Running a vwp application is slower than in 5.5.1 You cab watch it when a table is filled.
The initial indexing still takes a while to complete.
Memory requirements seems not much lower than before
Without a fix for this bug it is not possible to use the netbeans platform as a base for serious applications.
The indexer that runs when projects open runs slowly for large projects, even on a fast desktop.
I find the editor is quite a bit slower in scanning and generating auto-complete options. Also, it takes a long time to react to syntax errors when I open files - it can be 5 or 10 seconds before I see certain highlightings, and badges appearing in the margins.
It seems better but we still have long embarrassing pauses.
The editor has come a very long way but there are still some quirks which do not make it feel quite right.
startup
There is a significant bug where NB does compiling and or scanning in the background of projects that are not open. This just delays operations on the projects that are open. Even restarting netbeans doesn't help.. somehow it gets a hold of old projects and schedules background tasks for them. I find that irritating because it so unnecessarily affects performance. The overall delays involved a typical edit/build/debug cycle are still orders of magnitude greater than the competition in many cases. Code completion speeds appear to be acceptable now.
For me, the most annoying is the population of the Add Module Dependency dialog (and its not at all important). Most improved award goes to the UML plugin.
Performance improvement is not really noticable.
I think the startup time has not improved as much as you say it has. It still seems to take forever and it seems like the IDE is still doing quite a bit of work after it finally comes up. Also the editor is still quite sluggish for things like auto complete, and also cannot seem to keep up with you if you're typing a bit faster than a snails pace.
I do not see any performance improvements. It seems slower than 5.5.1.
Still need faster startup. Sources are open in the java source editor from previous invocation of Netbeans, but not totally useable until the scanning stuff in the bottom right corner is done. So, why not it all up until the bottom right corner scanning stuff is done.
So far everything seems great in the performance arena.
If using Maven2 plugin, the code complete sometime very very slow and some classes/libraries cannot be load.
