Consolidation & Installation comments

  • Superb.
  • Great improvement on this for the Mac esp.
  • When upgrading, prior plugins, libraries, settings, etc. were not always ported. Not a terrible thing but...
  • Although I would like to suggest a download with only UML support, as some of my colleagues like the UML support but don't do any coding. So a UML only download would put NB also on the map as a proper CASE tool.
  • I like the new netBeans installer very much. But I was just hoping if you could bundle the same "custom" installer maker, so that we can distribute our applications by customizing the same installer.
  • Very well done!
  • Logical grouping of features. I personally use UML for even Java SE and Web projects. I have to download the full version and unselect those components I don't want.
  • It's perfect. Great work!!
  • I really don't know anything about the fitness of mobile and UML features.
  • Never had a problem. Nice job.
  • I really like the new installation matrix.
  • The slim-down suites, esp the JavaSE which I choose most often, doesn't seem to be able to install the additional supports (e.g. C++)
  • It seems difficult to share downloaded plugins between multiple Netbeans installations.
  • Though installer has become very very better , it sometimes has problems. Previous installations (after uninstall) leave some files and these cause problems with new versions. There should be possible to completely cleanup any remainings when doing uninstall. Downloads, updates and adding plugins has become excellent. I really like and perhaps love the way it has become. The website, daily builds and betas where accessible most of the time and these were comparable to paid expensive services.
  • I liked the zip installation before. I don't like to "install" something - copying is enough.
  • There should be a download like Web & Java EE but without the runtimes.
  • I had some problems with deinstalling and reinstalling.
  • When upgrading, the installer should discover my .netbeans folders and ensure that all of my libraries are configured, my projects are properly configured, etc.
  • It would be interesting an all-in-one plugging installer for those systems behind a firewall.
  • Updating from one development version to another and between major versions should be possible via Update Center, without the need to download the whole thing, migrate settings etc.
  • Is it possible to (major) update NetBeans through the Plugins Update window ?
  • A bit more flexibility. EE with the option to download only Tomcat or only Glassfish. S.th. like "download all" with checkboxes for every possible component.
  • It's quite resource consuming but It's great
  • I'd like more download options. Ideally, a web interface to customize it in any way and remove all the things one doesn't need. Especially, make each web development feature a checkbox - it's awfully bloated, I don't need all these things and I don't want to download them.
  • The plugin manager can be a little clunky. You need a ubuntu install to for first time linux users maybe.
  • Better support for SOA modules.
  • Customizing install packs #118533
  • During uninstallation it is still not clear what installations that are being removed along with NetBeans (see #119132)
  • I like the download options. I typically download the comprehensive package, and deselect the C module during install.
  • I do not want any applications servers to be included. I prefer to download and install those separately.
  • Some errors occurs the first startup if you don't select every package.
